SEARCH TO FIND BRISBANE’S NEXT BIG FASHION TALENT

Westfield Garden City has begun the search to find this year’s ‘Stylist’s Apprentice’ and is calling for budding fashionistas to consider whether they could become the next Rachel Zoe.

Into its second year, the Westfield Garden City Stylist’s Apprentice competition is a career-launching opportunity for aspiring stylists and fashion fanatics to gain invaluable experience in the styling and fashion industries – all while getting paid.

Following the success of the 2011 Stylist’s Apprentice, this year’s program has expanded to include a suite of hands on opportunities from styling alongside Westfield Garden City stylists, to blogging, fashion reporting and engaging with shoppers via the centre Facebook Fanpage and more.

“The winner will be someone who has an eye-for-style and a passion for fashion which can translate into style guidance and inspiration for our shoppers and online community,” says Sara Hatten-Masterson, Westfield Garden City stylist.

“This one-of-a-kind program provides a platform where would-be stylists can learn to apply their creativity in a commercial environment and showcase their breadth of styling and fashion commentary skills via the Westfield Garden City Facebook Fanpage,” she adds.

Alice Waugh, winner of the 2011 Stylist’s Apprentice says the title of the Stylist Apprentice is a dream job for those wanting a leg up in the fashion industry.

“It’s been an absolutely invaluable experience. I’ve worked with some of the best Stylists and retailers in the industry which has given my fashion career the kick start most could only dream of,” she says.

The competition is open to current tertiary students studying a fashion, design or communications related degree and requires entrants to showcase both their fashion and reporting capabilities.

Entries close April 9 with the top five finalists announced April 12. Shortlist candidates will be tasked with a fashion style challenge, supported by a written component and interview with the Westfield Garden City judging panel.

Results of the style challenge will be showcased at the grand finale event at Westfield Garden City on May 10, where finalists will be given free reign to style a full fashion parade featuring a range of runway looks and new season trends. The winner of the 2012 Stylist’s Apprentice will be announced on the night.

To enter, students need to provide a styled photograph of themselves inspired by a key 2012 Autumn/Winter trend. This is to be supported with a 150 word submission describing their look and style inspiration, along with top 5 tips to mastering the season’s trends. To enter visit the Westfield Garden City Facebook Fanpage

Hello again!

Just a quick update for now. We are working frantically to get some events going for all our AMPed members, and should be announcing bits and pieces over the next few days! Stay tuned for next weeks newsletter where, hopefully, we will have more details for you.

The Vice-Chancellor’s office is looking for volunteers for an event that QUT is sponsoring; the Brisbane Big City BBQ! The event will raise funds for the Lord Mayer’s Community Trust, DRUG ARM and Foodbank, and has raised almost $400 000 in the last 5 years. They need responses ASAP, so head to www.bigcitybbq.org.au for more info on the event, and send an email off to the lovely Ingrid Larkin @ <i.larkin@connect.qut.edu.au> for more info and if you would like to volunteer for the 3 hour shift.

Stay tuned for more!

Job Opportunity!

Hey all!

We’ve just been sent some info about a great opportunity for some experience working with QUT Innovation Space for the planning and organising of a social programming event - codeSmash. The event will be held on the 28th of this month, and would suit a talented, creative and enthusiastic marketing student. There will be quite a few businesses and Venture Capitalists involved and watching the event from the US, so this is a great chance to make an impression!!

If you’re interested, email Robert Roose at robert@weavgroup.com

Thanks!

Updates!

Hey all!

It’s shaping as a huge week, despite the holiday smack-bang in the middle of it! We’re breaking in some new helpers and planning the next (marketing) firm hop and another  panel night! The first panel night was a great success, and we would recommend attending no matter your major or field of interest.

Just a quick post about an opportunity for a Marketing Internship with Rex Group. If you want experience researching market information and trends (and then implementing what you know into a marketing strategy), supporting teams in planning, implementing and evaluating projects and working with databases, then this job may be for you. Marketing and advertising majors are preferred, but all may apply. You must be hard-working, creative and enthusiastic, plus if you can speak Mandarin this is a big plus (but not essential)! Head on over to International Internships > Featured Positions, for more information and to apply.

Have a great week!
